For years cybersecurity experts have been speaking out about the lack of regulations regarding the collection and storing of private data. While the European Union was quick to implement the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2016, other countries including the United States have failed to follow suit - allowing companies to collect, store, and sell their customers’ data will little to no guidelines.

In the early hours of the day Bloomberg announced that roughly 30 Autopilot Analyst in their Buffalo, NY office - known as Gigafactory 2 were laid off one day after expressing their intention to form a union. The Workers United union alleged these firings were a direct result of the announcement and have since filed a complaint with the US National Labor Relations Board – as it’s illegal under United States Federal Law for a company to retaliate against an organizing union.

Optus, Australia’s second-largest telecommunications company recently fell victim to a data breach. The hacker who goes by the name of Optusdata claimed to have stolen 11.2 million sensitive customer records – threatening to sell the data if the organization did not pay $1M USD in  Monero cryptocurrency.
