Data and big data analytics are the lifeblood for many successful businesses. Although it is often challenging to get these technologies right, building a team with the correct skills to implement big data strategy can be even harder. This is reflected in the ever-increasing demand for big data professionals, skills and certifications. If you are looking to compete competency, big data certification is the right way to go. These certifications are a measure of knowledge and skills in comparison with market requirements. It proves to the potential employers that you are up to the task and have the right skillset. Where and how to gain certifications is one of the questions that many people ask. Here are a few sources.

Simplilearn

Simplilearn has a course which has many subjects related to big data such as SAS, R Hadoop, and Apache Spark. The course on big data is tailored for beginners and skilled professionals. Designed by well-versed data management, IT, and data analytics professionals, the Hadoop Developer course is the best you can get from Simplilearn which is a great platform to improve your knowledge. In addition to highly qualified instructors, learners have access to CloudLab where they can carry out real-life projects.

The cost of self-paced learning for big data training course at Simplilearn is only $279 which is relatively cheap compared to other institutions. Simplilearn offers two training modes. They are self-paced learning and online learning Flexi-pass which lasts for 180 days and 90 days respectively.

Cloudera

This is among the more well known brands when it comes to big data training. Their certification in Hadoop Developer and CCP Spark are recognized worldwide. Training is conducted both virtually and in physical classrooms. You must train in Hadoop and Apache Spark for you to take their exams. The company claims their instructors are among the best minds in the big data industry, meaning students are assured of the best training. The cost of training for a big data course is $2,235 which is relatively expensive compared to others. The mode of training is instructor-led training and self-paced training. Cloudera’s courses are used by a significant number of Fortune 500 companies, meaning it is a highly reputable alternative.

Big Data University

Big Data University has backing by IBM and offers beginner and intermediate courses. They have e-learning content and videos which can be accessed easily by the learners at their own pace. The company asserts that its instructors are professionals and highly experienced educators in this industry. Unlike the other institutions, the most striking feature is that the self-paced course is free and learners can take exams as many times as they want. There are however no projects for practicing on a live environment.

Hortonworks

After Cloudera, this is perhaps the second best place to learn Big Data. In addition to self-study, Hortonworks has courses for certification exams in Big Data. Just like Cloudera, the instructors have rich industry experience. Training cost range from £550 - £2395 and the methods of training can be self-paced, blended training, or live training. Hortonworks holds training sessions around the world through partnerships with other institutions. This means that you can access it from anywhere.

Coursera

It has a Big Data online course in partnership with the University of California, San Diego. The course is as good as those offered by many colleges and even better than some as it is thought by some of the best professionals available in data science. With a cost of $324, you can begin learning with basics to Big Data specialization and learners can learn at their own pace. The downside, however, is that it doesn’t have instructor-led sessions.
