Data loss protection, anti-viruses, and endpoint security are just some of the technology available to defend against a cybersecurity attack. Organizations use these platforms to keep their existing data secure from potential threats. Often, this protection does not extend to information stored in data lakes. Because of this – information located in data lakes are vulnerable to attacks – a problem that hackers exploit when infiltrating data lakes.  

Data isn’t solely used by data scientists and analysts anymore.  Data is a currency that’s being monetized by marketers, recruiters, and sales managers to influence decision makers and stakeholders. One research organization understands this all too well. The need to analyze and interpret big data is now bleeding into the medical research field in hopes to drive results that will eventually lead to a cure for childhood cancers.

New Frontier Data, the leader in marijuana- based market research just expanded their presence in the cannabis community by acquiring not one but two different marijuana centered organizations. The DC-based company announced last week that they had acquired Zefyr – a data discovery platform for approximately $10 million. The merger creates what the companies call the “first marketing tech solution of its kind” in the industry.

DoorDash announced last Thursday that they were the victims of a data breach which occurred on May 4, 2019. The food delivery business, whose competition includes Grub Hub and Uber Eats, stated in a blog post that over 4.9 million people were affected by the breach. Those affected include customers, merchants, and workers who signed up for the app prior to April 5, 2018. The company states that at this point they do not have any evidence that those who signed up after the April 5^th date were compromised.
